Baggage

What restrictions are there in relation to the amount/weight of baggage?

Each person has an allowance of one bag / rucksack each to be transferred between camps and accommodation, included within the price of the Trek. We provide clients with a recommended Kit List and all of this should fit in one bag. For ‘Health & Safety' reasons, the weight allowance is 15kgs per bag - this being the limit for lifting weight above waist height (greater weight risks injury for anyone transferring baggage and therefore has implications on our insurance cover).

It's not a major problem for anyone to bring more gear (as long as you warn us off beforehand), however the weight must be distributed to another bag, so as not to exceed the 15kgs weight limit. Extra bags are charged at £6 per bag per shift - so on a standard Adventure Trek, baggage is transferred five times, in which case, a £30 supplement applies for each extra bag (additional to the one we are already transferring within the standard price of the Trek).

It's probably worth bearing in mind, that if every person on a Trek brought an extra bag, there wouldn't be sufficient space for all the gear to be transported by one vehicle - which would necessitate an extra vehicle + driver and therefore a higher cost overall.
