Food & Drink
What is the situation with meals?
We intentionally have this as optional for our Trekkers. Some folk prefer to bring their own gear and cook their own meals. Others take the opportunity of hiring cooking equipment off us to then do their own thing, and others prefer to have their meals prepared for them.
For those that prefer that latter option, we have a ‘Field Kitchen' set up each morning at the campsites that serves Breakfast (choice of Cereals / Fruit Juice / Tea / Coffee / Hot Bacon & Mushroom, Sausage & Tomato or Fried Egg sandwiches) at 0830. Continental Breakfast is available at the Bunkhouse (£5 per person, paid directly to accommodation provider).
We can also provide 'Picnic Lunches' with tasty local produce and traditional thirst-quenching pop, for those that would like them on their first five walking days - the sixth walking day being a river walk by the banks of the Tyne, where there are various options for a lunch break.
Evening meals (and refreshments) are available either at or relatively close to where you're located each night - in some cases, there's even the option of having takeaway meals being delivered.
Field Kitchen Breakfast option - £25 per person
(served on five mornings - ie Saturday-Wednesday)
Picnic Lunches - £30 per person
(provided for first five days - ie Saturday-Wednesday)
What if I would like to cook my own meals, or just have a hot drink or snack anytime I like, back at the campsite?
Assuming you choose not to bring your own camping cooker and other utensils, you can hire a 'Camper Hamper & Cooker' off us. In the Hamper you have Cups, Bowls, Plates and Cutlery, as well as a Saucepan, Frying Pan and Kettle, along with washing-up kit and a Teatowel. Besides that, we provide you with a Gas Cooker and a fresh gas canister. The Hamper is equipped for use by 1, 2, or 3 people for a total cost of £15 for the camping duration of the Trek. A replacement gas canister can be provided for £2.50 if the other runs out due to extensive use.
How can I fill my own flask and mug for hot drinks?
You can hire a 'Cooker & Kettle' off us. We can supply you with a simple-to-use single ring Gas Cooker and fresh gas cylinder for £5 for the camping duration of the Trek.
